After satisfactorily completing the cadet training you will be promoted to firefighter and serve a probationary period of one year from the date of promotion.  When you are promoted to probationary firefighter you will be assigned to a crew and station duties will be assigned to be completed during the week your crew is on duty. 


As a firefighter, you are required to log 75 hours per quarter (25 hours per month) of on-duty time at the station. Regular training is scheduled for Thursday nights from 18:30 to 22:00.

Fire Fighter
Cadet Training

If you join the fire district, you will spend the first three months as a cadet. You will attend our cadet training classes which are designed to teach the basic skill sets of firefighting. These training classes are required and are currently scheduled on Tuesday nights from 18:00 to 22:00.


Each cadet training class has specific topics and skills that must be learned and demonstrated. After a successful demonstration of the skills, the instructors will sign you off. At the end of the three-month period, you must have all of the required skills signed off or you will not be able to graduate.


During the three months of cadet status, you are required to log 36 hours per month on duty at the station. 

2nd Interview

You may be called back for a second, one on one interview with the Fire Chief. This is done at the discretion of the Chief and may not be needed.

Written Test
After you interview is complete, you will take a written test. This is a timed test that covers reading comprehension, verbal expressions, spatial orientation, mathematics, mechanical aptitude, reasoning and judgment.
You should arrive 15 minutes before you scheduled interview time to check in and provide any documents you wish to submit for the interview. These would be copies of any licenses, training certificates, letters of recommendation, professional resume or similar. These copies will remain with OFFPD and copies cannot be made at the interview. 


Your interview will be conducted by a panel of OFFPD personnel and will last approximately 25 minutes. Please remember, dress to impress. 

Interview
After completion of the online application:
After completion of the online application you will be contacted to schedule a interview. Interviews are typically scheduled sometime in February and August between 09:00-17:00 hours.
